Helen’s creative passion was rekindled in 2017 when she left her career in Local Government to care for her husband. She began with what she knew and started drawing portraits and pets in graphite and charcoal, but quickly progressed to coloured pencils, pastels and watercolour, incorporating wildlife and florals and still life.
Trained as a technical illustrator at Portsmouth University in her teens, Helen is drawn to strong shapes and bright colours which you will often find in her personal pieces. Though she naturally gravitates towards coloured pencil and realism, she regularly explores different mediums and encourages artists to try lots of styles before settling on one.
Helen has won awards for her coloured pencil artwork with The SAA and UK Coloured Pencil Society. She is a regular contributor to the Derwent Blog and has published articles in various art magazines.
